Our Dental Crown Procedure
At our office, we value your time and money.
Getting a dental crown takes no more than three visits, and sometimes even fewer.
Here is how your treatment will go.
Step 1: Consultation
Dr. Omar Karaboulad, DMD, will take a close look at your overall oral health before recommending anything. He will listen to your concerns and walk you through your options. Feel free to ask questions!
If your case warrants a crown, your dentist will help you choose the material based on where the tooth is located, how much of the tooth shows, and how much of the structure remains, your gum line and tissue position, and the shade of your surrounding teeth. During your consultation, our team will go over costs with you. We want you to be financially prepared for any procedure.
Step 2: Temporary Crown
This step may be done the same day as your consultation. Dr. Omar Karaboulad, DMD, will remove any decay or damage and shape your tooth. After that, he will place a temporary crown and take impressions for a precise model of your tooth.
Your dentist will send that model to a lab, where your final crown will be fabricated. The team will let you know exactly when it will be ready.
Step 3: Final Crown
Once your permanent crown is available, see Dr. Omar Karaboulad, DMD, again for the finishing touch. He will remove the temporary crown, place and adjust the new one, and ask what you think. Be honest about its appearance and feel!
Lastly, your dentist will cement it into place and let you enjoy your restored smile.
The Types Our Clinic Offers
Metal Crowns
Whether gold, palladium, nickel, chromium, or a mix of these metals, such crowns are incredibly tough and long-lasting. They require minimal tooth structure removal but are very noticeable.
Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crowns
PFM crowns combine the strength of metal with a more natural-looking outer layer. However, they can gradually wear down the opposing teeth.
Pressed Ceramic Crowns
Pressed ceramic crowns, made with a ceramic core rather than metal, are a step up in aesthetics from PFM crowns. Note that they may not last as long in high-pressure areas, such as molars.
All-Ceramic or Porcelain Crowns
Advanced materials like zirconia are the closest match to real tooth enamel. They are completely metal-free, which is great if you have allergies or sensitivities. Be ready for the price, though.

Who Needs Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns near me are now one of the most common treatments. Many dentists recommend them because they work wonders! Here are all the oral health issues they can solve.
Tooth Replacement
You must replace a tooth when it is beyond repair. One way to do so is to get a dental implant, which dentists surgically place in the jawbone to serve as a root. Then, they add a crown on top to act as the actual tooth. Crowns also anchor dental bridges Scottsdale, filling the gaps left by missing teeth.
Tooth Repair
Is it still possible to save your real tooth through a root canal? Yes! However, teeth can eventually weaken after such procedures. Crowns will reinforce them, allowing you to use them normally again.
Moreover, your pearly whites go through a lot of grinding and chewing. Accidents may even harm them. Over time, they can become worn down, cracked, or broken.
Fortunately, crowns may hold them together to prevent further damage. A crown is ideal for cavities that are too extensive for a standard filling as well.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Not every crown is for restoration. Sometimes, it is for your confidence. If you have a severely discolored or stained tooth that does not respond to whitening, a crown can completely transform it! Fall in love with a more uniform, polished smile.
The Benefits of Dental Crowns
Yes, you must remove a small amount of your enamel to make a dental crown fit. You might also notice some sensitivity at first. Still, the results are worth it. What advantages would you be investing in?
- Treatment for Mishappened Teeth: Nobody wants to keep a tooth damaged or decayed forever. If yours has lost its original shape and strength, a crown will restore the look you want.
- Protection for Teeth: Weak teeth are more vulnerable. Crowns are robust outer layers that keep teeth safe from everyday wear and tear.
- Improved Chewing Function: When your teeth are properly aligned and supported, eating becomes easier and more comfortable. Stop avoiding the foods you truly love!
- Enhanced Appearance: Modern crowns are designed to match the color and translucency of your real teeth. Most people will not even notice you have one.
- Long-Lasting Treatment: With proper care, crowns can last five to 15 years. Make sure you do not forget about good hygiene and regular checkups with Dr. Omar Karaboulad, DMD.
Caring for Your Dental Crown
How dental crowns remain in good condition depends on the dentist's skill and the patient's efforts. At Scottsdale Dental Aesthetics, we remind our patients to be extra careful with temporary crowns since they are not meant to last long.
Brush like normal, but go a bit easier around it to avoid loosening. When flossing, slide out from the side. You do not want to pop the crown off accidentally! Pass up on sticky or very hard foods in the meantime, and see Dr. Omar Karaboulad, DMD, immediately if it falls off or breaks.
When it comes to your permanent crown, brush and floss at least twice a day. Be gentle but thorough, especially around the crowned tooth. If you notice sensitivity, switch to a different toothpaste.
Be mindful of chewing on ice, hard candy, or anything crunchy. They are strong, but they can still break. If you grind your teeth, ask Dr. Omar Karaboulad, DMD, about custom night guards.
Our expert team is here for you, from figuring out if you need a crown to learning how to take care of it.

Root Canals
Therapy
When this sensitive tissue becomes infected, most commonly from advanced decay, trauma, or cracks, it can result in severe discomfort and jeopardize the tooth’s longevity. Root canal therapy, also called endodontic treatment, is a specialized procedure designed to eradicate infection or damage within the pulp chamber, with the goal of protecting the natural tooth and relieving pain.
Tooth Removals
Teeth Extractions
Simple extractions are categorized as the removal of fully erupted teeth, typically without affecting the adjacent bone. In contrast, surgical extractions address impacted or broken teeth, often requiring a gum incision, bone removal, or tooth sectioning to ensure safe removal. Performed by skilled dentists or oral surgeons under local anesthesia, these procedures are routine and generally followed by a recovery period of about two weeks.
Wisdom Teeth
Impacted
Common complications include impaction, in which the wisdom tooth becomes trapped in the gum or jawbone, leading to pain, swelling, or infection. Insufficient space in the dental arch often results in these teeth emerging at improper angles, leading to crowding, misalignment, and difficulties with oral hygiene.
Consequently, wisdom teeth are particularly prone to decay and periodontal disease.
Cleanings
Prevention
This approach stresses routine professional cleanings, diligent at-home practices, including brushing, flossing, and the use of fluoride toothpaste, and regular dental examinations. Such preventive measures are vital in minimizing the likelihood of gum disease, cavities, enamel wear, and other dental concerns. Following professional guidance, such as receiving fluoride treatments and sealant applications, further supports the preservation of strong, healthy teeth and gums.
Crowns
Restoration
Crowns are premier treatments for cracked, severely worn, or decayed teeth, as well as for those who have undergone root canal therapy. These restorations, which completely cover and protect compromised teeth, provide sturdy, full-coverage reinforcement that greatly reduces the risk of fractures and further deterioration from regular biting or chewing forces.
Bridges
Prosthetics
These prosthetic solutions are securely anchored to neighboring natural teeth, known as abutment teeth, or supported by dental implants. By restoring both the aesthetics and function of your smile, dental bridges enable you to chew, speak, and preserve ideal oral health with confidence.
Fillings
Fix
Expertly made from biocompatible, non-toxic materials, including zirconia, porcelain-based ceramics, glass, resin, and lithium disilicate, these restorations are carefully designed to replicate the natural shade and translucency of your teeth. For patients seeking both functional reliability and an aesthetically pleasing, smooth appearance, metal-free restorations offer an outstanding solution.
Bonding
Improvements
Utilizing a tooth-colored resin, this minimally invasive procedure expertly restores form and appearance by precisely sculpting and polishing the material to blend flawlessly with your natural teeth. Dental bonding is known for its ability to provide immediate improvements with minimal alteration to the existing tooth structure, making it an ideal choice for enhancing the uniformity and beauty of your smile.
Dentures
Replacements
By occupying spaces left by tooth loss, Scottsdale dentures greatly improve both chewing efficiency and the visual attractiveness of your smile. These skillfully fabricated artificial teeth support facial structure, improve speech clarity, and restore functional bite dynamics.
Dentures provide a reliable way to regain comfort, confidence, and oral health, making them an ideal solution for those who need to replace an arch of teeth.
Teeth Whitening
Remove Stains & Discoloration
Utilizing safe and effective bleaching agents, most commonly carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide, this procedure targets both surface and deep enamel stains, restoring a noticeably brighter smile. Patients can choose from several whitening options, including in-office treatments for immediate results, professionally prescribed take-home kits, and convenient non-prescription solutions.
While each method grants varying degrees of strength and longevity, all teeth whitening Scottsdale treatments share the goal of improving dental aesthetics and boosting personal confidence.
Clear Aligners
Invisalign Invisable Braces
Each set of transparent, custom-molded trays is precisely fabricated to fit your teeth and deliver gentle, continuous pressure that gradually moves them into optimal alignment. Clear aligners are easily removable, allowing unrestricted eating and effortless oral hygiene maintenance. Constructed from comfortable, BPA-free materials, these nearly invisible trays merge effortlessly within daily life.
Especially effective for less severe orthodontic needs, clear aligners offer a convenient and confidence-boosting route to a healthier, more uniform smile for patients of any age
Cosmetic Dentistry
Enhancement
Unlike general dentistry, which focuses on oral health maintenance and restoration, cosmetic dentistry is centered on improving the color, shape, alignment, and symmetry of your smile. By combining skill with clinical expertise, cosmetic treatments like veneers are designed to deliver natural-looking enhancements, helping individuals achieve a radiant, harmonious, and confident appearance.
Emergency Dentistry
Expert Urgent Care
Common scenarios requiring emergency intervention include persistent, severe tooth pain; uncontrolled bleeding; and infections or abscesses that threaten general health. Additionally, traumatic injuries to the teeth, gums, or jaw necessitate rapid professional attention. By immediately addressing the root cause, emergency dentistry relieves acute symptoms and stabilizes oral health, delivering a crucial bridge to further necessary treatment.
